Where you work: Witham Health Services, inpatient geriatric psychiatry, and nursing home psychiatry in the greater
Indianapolis area

Typical day in your shoes: Arrive at my inpatient unit around 7-7:30am, staff with the treatment team regarding currently admitted patients, round on the unit, call families and discuss plans of care with the treatment team, complete any psychiatric consults on the medical unit. Around 11am-noon, leave for my scheduled nursing home for the day, staff with my nurse practitioner and round at the nursing home, with a behavioral team meeting generally scheduled during my nursing home visit. I am generally done rounding by between 3-4pm, and will either complete my notes at that time, or get home to see my family and complete my notes later in the day.

Best advice you’ve ever heard: When people come together sharing their strengths, it breeds competition. But when people come together sharing their weaknesses, it breeds community.

Favorite vacation experience/destination: My grandparents purchased a beach house on Long Beach Island in New Jersey in the early 80’s, and my family has had the great privilege of enjoying annual summer trips to the house since I was born. I’ve since been able to share the same experience with my own children.

Favorite TV show: It is hard to name just one, but if forced I think Breaking Bad is one of the best shows created.

One thing that can instantly make your day better: It may sound cliche, but while I love my job, getting home and seeing my wife and two young kids certainly makes my day.
